QUITO, ECUADOR — Hundreds were killed and more injured when earthquakes hit Japan on Thursday and Saturday morning and Ecuador on Saturday night. Despite occurring only 32 hours apart, experts believe the two are not related. The only commonality is that both are located in the seismically active Ring of Fire, reports Reuters. The Ring of Fire is a horseshoe-shaped arc around the Pacific Ocean that extends from South America all the way to New Zealand. At about 25,000 miles long, its most visible features are the volcanoes that dot the coast and make up roughly 75 percent of all active volcanoes on earth, according to National Geographic. Throughout history, cataclysmic eruptions have occurred in this area, as well as 90 percent of the world's earthquakes. According to National Geographic, both are caused by the movement of tectonic plates — huge slabs of the earth's crust. When plates slide horizontally past each other, some parts get stuck. Built-up stress in those areas eventually cause the rock to break or slip, and the plates to lurch forward, causing earthquakes. Plates that collide form convergent plate boundaries, which give rise to volcanoes through subduction. Those that pull apart form divergent boundaries, which become the site for seafloor spreading and rift valleys. A less-powerful quake in Tonga also occurred Sunday. It, too, is believed to be unrelated to those in Ecuador and Japan, reports SBS. Despite this, an increase in global seismic activity in recent years is still cause for concern. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. The quake struck at 18:58 local time on Saturday (23:58 GMT) near the northern coastal town of Muisne. Two smaller quakes were recorded near Ecuador’s coast before and after the 7.8-magnitude temblor, according to the USGS. A 4.8 occurred about 10 minutes before the larger quake, and a 5.4-magnitude earthquake happened 30 minutes after it, the USGS said. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/ https://theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com/ Widespread severe damage is reported, with a bridge destroyed as far south as Guayaquil about 300km (190 miles) away. A state of emergency has been declared in six provinces and the National Guard has been mobilised. The quake, the country's largest since 1979, also shook buildings in the capital, Quito. The US Geological Survey said the earthquake struck at a fairly shallow depth of 19.2km (11.9 miles), about 27km from Muisne in a sparsely populated area. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-36065551 Music credit: Drifting 2 by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: http://audionautix.com/

The next most seismic region (5--6% of earthquakes and 17% of the world's largest earthquakes) is the Alpide belt, which extends from Java to Sumatra through the Himalayas, the Mediterranean, and out into the Atlantic. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is the third most prominent earthquake belt. The Ring of Fire is a direct result of plate tectonics and the movement and collisions of lithospheric plates. The eastern section of the ring is the result of the Nazca Plate and the Cocos Plate being subducted beneath the westward moving South American Plate. The Cocos Plate is being subducted beneath the Caribbean Plate, in Central America. A portion of the Pacific Plate along with the small Juan de Fuca Plate are being subducted beneath the North American Plate. Along the northern portion, the northwestward-moving Pacific plate is being subducted beneath the Aleutian Islands arc. Farther west, the Pacific plate is being subducted along the Kamchatka Peninsula arcs on south past Japan. The southern portion is more complex, with a number of smaller tectonic plates in collision with the Pacific plate from the Mariana Islands, the Philippines, Bougainville, Tonga, and New Zealand; this portion excludes Australia, since it lies in the center of its tectonic plate. Indonesia lies between the Ring of Fire along the northeastern islands adjacent to and including New Guinea and the Alpide belt along the south and west from Sumatra, Java, Bali, Flores, and Timor. The famous and very active San Andreas Fault zone of California is a transform fault which offsets a portion of the East Pacific Rise under southwestern United States and Mexico. The motion of the fault generates numerous small earthquakes, at multiple times a day, most of which are too small to be felt. The active Queen Charlotte Fault on the west coast of the Haida Gwaii, British Columbia, Canada, has generated three large earthquakes during the 20th century: a magnitude 7 event in 1929; a magnitude 8.1 in 1949 (Canada's largest recorded earthquake); and a magnitude 7.4 in 1970. 타이완, 일본, 뉴질랜드 버투아투 불의 고리 곳곳 지진 잇따라 Mexico is not the only country to have been hit by a powerful earthquake in recent days. Places dotted around the so-called "Pacific Ring of Fire" have been rocked by a series of strong quakes in recent days,... fortunately none as deadly as the one in Mexico. For more about the sharp uptick in seismic activity around the ring,... here's Park Ji-won. In recent days,... a series of powerful earthquakes have hit countries situated along the so-called "Ring of Fire,"... regions surrounding the Pacific Ocean that are prone to quakes and volcanic eruptions. In Taiwan,... a magnitude 5-point-7 earthquake struck the east of the island nation late Wednesday. Although no casualties or damages have reported,... the country's central weather bureau said aftershocks of intensity-four and five magnitude were detected. In Japan,.. a six-point-one magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of the country. According to the U.S. Geological Survey's website,... the quake hit before the crack of dawn on Thursday,... some 320 kilometers east of Fukushima,... where a massive earthquake and tsunami led to the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011. New Zealand,... another country in the Ring of Fire,.. was hit by a 6-point-1 magnitude undersea quake on Wednesday afternoon,... rattling the southwest of the country. A magnitude 6-point-4 quake struck Vanuatu's fourth largest island Erromango in the Pacific Ocean on Thursday. It struck the center of the island at around seven in the morning. The so-called of Ring of Fire stretches over some 40-thousand kilometers along the boundary of the Pacific Plate and the smaller plates that line the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Earthquakes happen as the plates grind up against each other and produce friction. Park Ji-won, Arirang News. Places, where the tectonic plates, usually lead to the formation of volcanoes. Such scientific theory applies to the Pacific Ring of Fire – this is an area around the Pacific Ocean. This Ring of Fire is formed by over 75% of dormant and active volcanoes (the biggest part of them are considered active, and some stats state that this place is home to over 50% of the Earth’s most active volcanoes). Beginning New Zealand, the Ring of Fire goes north around the coast of Asia to the Aleutian Islands, and south down the western coasts of North, Central and South America. There is a lot of cool statistical data connected to this unusual formation of active volcanoes. The Ring of Fire or circum-Pacific belt is a place where: - over 90% of the world's earthquakes occur; - most all of the biggest volcano eruptions have happened in the last 11,7 thousand years (22 out of top 25 eruptions); - ~452 volcanoes, including the most dangerous, are located. If you would like to check out other scientific facts about volcanoes, please check out this interactive video presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74_E6S5AWqI We have put together a top 10 list of best volcano facts and here is a brief review of some of them: - what is understood by the Pele’s hair and tears? - Etna – volcano with the most documented eruptions; - Iceland – the incredible land of fire and ice; - Paricutin as the fastest growing volcano; - and many more to come. The Ring of Fire is a direct result of plate tectonics and the movement and collisions of lithospheric plates.[6] The eastern section of the ring is the result of the Nazca Plate and the Cocos Plate being subducted beneath the westward moving South American Plate. The Cocos Plate is being subducted beneath the Caribbean Plate, in Central America. A portion of the Pacific Plate along with the small Juan de Fuca Plate are being subducted beneath the North American Plate

1. Volcanic ash from the eruption will probably spread to Buenos Aires and cover much of the less-populated parts of Argentina. 2. Japan’s second highest volcano Mount Ontake erupted on Saturday, leaving hundreds of people trapped on the mountain for hours and more than 30 feared dead. 3. Residents living near the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii have been forced to evacuate as lava from the volcano has come within yards of the town of Pahoa. 4. Tamu Massif is an extinct, shield type volcano 1600km east of Japan. The area of its basalt dome is approximately equal to Great Britain and Ireland added together, or over 100,000 square kilometers. 5. Japan and Ecuador experienced earthquakes and both were situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is known for being a hotbed of volcanic and seismic activity. 심상찮은 '불의 고리' 초강력 지진 전조 우려 Four powerful earthquakes struck different parts of the world last week -- Japan, Ecuador and Tonga. While they are all thousands of kilometers apart,... one things connects them: the Ring of Fire. Lee Ji-won reports. Japan is facing the daunting task of cleaning up after two powerful earthquakes hit its southern island of Kyushu in little more than 24 hours late last week. Roughly a day later, a seven-point-eight magnitude quake struck Ecuador. And on Sunday, Tonga, an island state in the southern Pacific Ocean was hit with a six-point-one magnitude earthquake. All the affected places are within the so-called 'Ring of Fire', an area where frequent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur in the Pacific Ocean. About 90-percent of earthquakes occur in this region and about 75-percent of active volcanoes are located along the Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire is a result of the movement and collision of tectonic plates that make up the Earth's crust. And at a subduction zone, where the heavier plate slips under the lighter plate, trenches are formed... sometimes developing into volcanoes. When the crust underground suddenly breaks due to pressure, earthquakes are caused. And seeing how four earthquakes have hit different parts of the world in the past few days, experts are concerned an even stronger earthquake may be on the way. Lee Ji-won, Arirang News. The 'Ring Of Fire Is Shaking Violently' - Massive Uptick In Earthquakes And Volcano Eruptions - Earth 'Is Becoming Increasingly Unstable' Massive uptick In earthquakes And volcano eruptions occurred between May 9, 2015 to May 15, 2015, surrounding the "Ring of Fire," which is where about 90%of the world's earthquakes and 81% of the world's largest earthquakes occur, according to Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_of_Fire Not only is there tremendous earthquake activity shaking the earth in these locations, but according to The Economic Collapse Blog, using information obtained from Volcano Discovery, 40 volcanoes around the globe are erupting right now, and 34 of them are along the Ring of Fire. To give context to what this means, they explain "there were a total of 3,542 volcanic eruptions during the entire 20th century. When you divide that number by 100, that gives you an average of about 35 volcanic eruptions per year. So the number of volcanoes that are erupting right now is well above the 20th century’s average for an entire calendar year." This escalation of activity, specifically surrounding the Ring of Fire, which has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75% of the world's active and dormant volcanoes spanning 25,000 miles in a horseshoe shape, leads Michael Snyder from the Economic Collapse Blog to state "the Ring of Fire is shaking violently," and Earth "is becoming increasingly unstable." Almost 90% of the world’s volcanic eruptions and earthquakes happen in the Ring of Fire. Tsunamis often occur as the result of large earthquakes and are most common in areas within the Ring of Fire. Tectonic plates are pieces of the Earth’s crust that are constantly moving and reshaping the world. And it is the cause of natural calamities of the earth.
