Places, where the tectonic plates, usually lead to the formation of volcanoes. Such scientific theory applies to the Pacific Ring of Fire – this is an area around the Pacific Ocean. This Ring of Fire is formed by over 75% of dormant and active volcanoes (the biggest part of them are considered active, and some stats state that this place is home to over 50% of the Earth’s most active volcanoes). Beginning New Zealand, the Ring of Fire goes north around the coast of Asia to the Aleutian Islands, and south down the western coasts of North, Central and South America. There is a lot of cool statistical data connected to this unusual formation of active volcanoes. QUITO, ECUADOR — Hundreds were killed and more injured when earthquakes hit Japan on Thursday and Saturday morning and Ecuador on Saturday night. Despite occurring only 32 hours apart, experts believe the two are not related. The only commonality is that both are located in the seismically active Ring of Fire, reports Reuters. The Ring of Fire is a horseshoe-shaped arc around the Pacific Ocean that extends from South America all the way to New Zealand. At about 25,000 miles long, its most visible features are the volcanoes that dot the coast and make up roughly 75 percent of all active volcanoes on earth, according to National Geographic. Throughout history, cataclysmic eruptions have occurred in this area, as well as 90 percent of the world's earthquakes. According to National Geographic, both are caused by the movement of tectonic plates — huge slabs of the earth's crust. When plates slide horizontally past each other, some parts get stuck. Built-up stress in those areas eventually cause the rock to break or slip, and the plates to lurch forward, causing earthquakes. Plates that collide form convergent plate boundaries, which give rise to volcanoes through subduction. Those that pull apart form divergent boundaries, which become the site for seafloor spreading and rift valleys. A less-powerful quake in Tonga also occurred Sunday. It, too, is believed to be unrelated to those in Ecuador and Japan, reports SBS. Despite this, an increase in global seismic activity in recent years is still cause for concern. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. The quake struck at 18:58 local time on Saturday (23:58 GMT) near the northern coastal town of Muisne. Two smaller quakes were recorded near Ecuador’s coast before and after the 7.8-magnitude temblor, according to the USGS. A 4.8 occurred about 10 minutes before the larger quake, and a 5.4-magnitude earthquake happened 30 minutes after it, the USGS said. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/ https://theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com/ Widespread severe damage is reported, with a bridge destroyed as far south as Guayaquil about 300km (190 miles) away. A state of emergency has been declared in six provinces and the National Guard has been mobilised. The quake, the country's largest since 1979, also shook buildings in the capital, Quito. The US Geological Survey said the earthquake struck at a fairly shallow depth of 19.2km (11.9 miles), about 27km from Muisne in a sparsely populated area. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-36065551 Music credit: Drifting 2 by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Artist: http://audionautix.com/

The Ring of Fire or circum-Pacific belt is a place where: - over 90% of the world's earthquakes occur; - most all of the biggest volcano eruptions have happened in the last 11,7 thousand years (22 out of top 25 eruptions); - ~452 volcanoes, including the most dangerous, are located. If you would like to check out other scientific facts about volcanoes, please check out this interactive video presentation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74_E6S5AWqI We have put together a top 10 list of best volcano facts and here is a brief review of some of them: - what is understood by the Pele’s hair and tears? - Etna – volcano with the most documented eruptions; - Iceland – the incredible land of fire and ice; - Paricutin as the fastest growing volcano; - and many more to come. Please leave your comments and ideas. Thanks for your time!

Contribute to the Project: http://igeo.tv/contribuye-al-proyecto/ The Ring of Fire is an area where a large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean. In a 40,000 km (25,000 mi) horseshoe shape, it is associated with a nearly continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs, and volcanic belts and/or plate movements. It has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75% of the world's active and dormant volcanoes. It is sometimes called the circum-Pacific belt or the circum-Pacific seismic belt. About 90% of the world's earthquakes and 81% of the world's largest earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire. The next most seismic region (5--6% of earthquakes and 17% of the world's largest earthquakes) is the Alpide belt, which extends from Java to Sumatra through the Himalayas, the Mediterranean, and out into the Atlantic. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is the third most prominent earthquake belt. The Ring of Fire is a direct result of plate tectonics and the movement and collisions of lithospheric plates. The eastern section of the ring is the result of the Nazca Plate and the Cocos Plate being subducted beneath the westward moving South American Plate. The Cocos Plate is being subducted beneath the Caribbean Plate, in Central America. A portion of the Pacific Plate along with the small Juan de Fuca Plate are being subducted beneath the North American Plate. Along the northern portion, the northwestward-moving Pacific plate is being subducted beneath the Aleutian Islands arc. Farther west, the Pacific plate is being subducted along the Kamchatka Peninsula arcs on south past Japan. The southern portion is more complex, with a number of smaller tectonic plates in collision with the Pacific plate from the Mariana Islands, the Philippines, Bougainville, Tonga, and New Zealand; this portion excludes Australia, since it lies in the center of its tectonic plate. Indonesia lies between the Ring of Fire along the northeastern islands adjacent to and including New Guinea and the Alpide belt along the south and west from Sumatra, Java, Bali, Flores, and Timor. The famous and very active San Andreas Fault zone of California is a transform fault which offsets a portion of the East Pacific Rise under southwestern United States and Mexico. The motion of the fault generates numerous small earthquakes, at multiple times a day, most of which are too small to be felt. The active Queen Charlotte Fault on the west coast of the Haida Gwaii, British Columbia, Canada, has generated three large earthquakes during the 20th century: a magnitude 7 event in 1929; a magnitude 8.1 in 1949 (Canada's largest recorded earthquake); and a magnitude 7.4 in 1970. 1. Volcanic ash from the eruption will probably spread to Buenos Aires and cover much of the less-populated parts of Argentina. 2. Japan’s second highest volcano Mount Ontake erupted on Saturday, leaving hundreds of people trapped on the mountain for hours and more than 30 feared dead. 3. Residents living near the Kilauea volcano in Hawaii have been forced to evacuate as lava from the volcano has come within yards of the town of Pahoa. 4. Tamu Massif is an extinct, shield type volcano 1600km east of Japan. The area of its basalt dome is approximately equal to Great Britain and Ireland added together, or over 100,000 square kilometers. 5. Japan and Ecuador experienced earthquakes and both were situated in the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is known for being a hotbed of volcanic and seismic activity. 심상찮은 '불의 고리' 초강력 지진 전조 우려 Four powerful earthquakes struck different parts of the world last week -- Japan, Ecuador and Tonga. While they are all thousands of kilometers apart,... one things connects them: the Ring of Fire. Lee Ji-won reports. Japan is facing the daunting task of cleaning up after two powerful earthquakes hit its southern island of Kyushu in little more than 24 hours late last week. Roughly a day later, a seven-point-eight magnitude quake struck Ecuador. And on Sunday, Tonga, an island state in the southern Pacific Ocean was hit with a six-point-one magnitude earthquake. All the affected places are within the so-called 'Ring of Fire', an area where frequent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes occur in the Pacific Ocean. About 90-percent of earthquakes occur in this region and about 75-percent of active volcanoes are located along the Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire is a result of the movement and collision of tectonic plates that make up the Earth's crust. And at a subduction zone, where the heavier plate slips under the lighter plate, trenches are formed... sometimes developing into volcanoes. When the crust underground suddenly breaks due to pressure, earthquakes are caused. And seeing how four earthquakes have hit different parts of the world in the past few days, experts are concerned an even stronger earthquake may be on the way. Lee Ji-won, Arirang News. 불안한 불의 고리...필리핀서도 또 지진.. 그러나 한반도는 가능성 낮아 Another earthquake rattled the infamous Ring of Fire in the Pacific Ocean, this time in the Philippines. \ The latest tremor is stoking great concern regarding the possibilities of more quakes ahead... especially when Japan and Ecuador, located on opposite sides of the ring, are still coping with hundreds of aftershocks from mega-earthquakes that occurred just days apart. How concerned should we be about that possibility and what about the Korean peninsula? Our Lee Minyoung has this report. Another seismic activity was detected along the so called Ring of Fire. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, a magnitude 5 earthquake hit Davao Oriental...located in the Southern area of the Philippines... early morning on Wednesday local time. The agency noted that there were no casualties nor damage reported from the quake. Following the deadly earthquakes that hit Japan and Ecuador last week, Wednesday's seismic activity in the Southeast Asian country has sparked widespread concerns that the recent series of earthquakes might be correlated ... as they continue to be detected in countries situated along the Pacific Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire refers to a long chain of active volcanoes and earthquake-prone sites that run around the Pacific Rim....and it is believed that about 90-percent of all seismic activities in the world occur around this area. As the Korean peninsula is located on the same tectonic plate as Japan, there are growing concerns that Korea may also be vulnerable to powerful earthquakes. Experts, however, say it's a highly unlikely scenario. "A large-scale earthquake occurs only on long monolayers beneath the ground, and when pressure accumulates on them. But Korea falls under neither of those circumstances. Of course, we should be prepared for mild earthquakes, but there is almost no possibility that we could experience one like the ones that hit Japan." The expert also pointed out that there is no causal link between the recent series of earthquakes, and rather, the Ring of Fire could be going through a period of activity for the time being. The 'Ring Of Fire Is Shaking Violently' - Massive Uptick In Earthquakes And Volcano Eruptions - Earth 'Is Becoming Increasingly Unstable' Massive uptick In earthquakes And volcano eruptions occurred between May 9, 2015 to May 15, 2015, surrounding the "Ring of Fire," which is where about 90%of the world's earthquakes and 81% of the world's largest earthquakes occur, according to Wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_of_Fire Not only is there tremendous earthquake activity shaking the earth in these locations, but according to The Economic Collapse Blog, using information obtained from Volcano Discovery, 40 volcanoes around the globe are erupting right now, and 34 of them are along the Ring of Fire. To give context to what this means, they explain "there were a total of 3,542 volcanic eruptions during the entire 20th century. When you divide that number by 100, that gives you an average of about 35 volcanic eruptions per year. So the number of volcanoes that are erupting right now is well above the 20th century’s average for an entire calendar year." This escalation of activity, specifically surrounding the Ring of Fire, which has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75% of the world's active and dormant volcanoes spanning 25,000 miles in a horseshoe shape, leads Michael Snyder from the Economic Collapse Blog to state "the Ring of Fire is shaking violently," and Earth "is becoming increasingly unstable."
